Jim and everyone, The 0h RUC precip fields are basically carried over from the previous 1h forecast used as a background for the current analysis. They should not be regarded as a precipitation analysis. There is some information on convection based on GOES passed through the 1h convective precip to help trigger the RUC convective parameterization the next hour, but again, it shouldn't be used as a precip analysis.
