David,  The RUC fits raob winds within 2-3 m/s RMS vector difference (analysis minus ob) at 850-700 mb, and within 3-4 m/s at 300-150 mb. We do not have info on speed fit to obs, but by definition, it is somewhat less than the vector fit, so probably 1-2 m/s. ACARS aircraft data fit is also about 2-3.5 m/s RMS vector difference.
