Yes, John, I believe the San Joaquin/Sacrmento Valley airmass does reach the Sierra crest by late afternoon or early evening. Of course, it is highly modified. Perhaps a good way to see the effects of the diffential heating from the Nevada Plateau would be to plot potential temperature in the mixed BL. There you would see the temperture diffence at 10,000-20,000 msl due to the deep mixed BL over the Nevada area.
