Two updates, both regarding water and coasts:
Due to an ftp script problem, the sea-surface and lake-surface temps in the 20km have not updated since 9 March. This is fixed as of the 22z run today.
The 20km RUC 3dvar analysis treatment of near-coast surface stations was changed last Thursday and Friday such that the background for buoys must be from water points, and that for land stations must be from land points. This avoids problems with anomalous temperature or dewpoint blobs found out over ocean areas near coasts that sometimes occur in the 40km RUC.
